Volunteer
At Literacy Volunteers of South Sarasota County (LVSCC), we are dedicated to empowering individuals through English literacy. Our volunteers are passionate about helping people learn to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Our programs are designed to support adults with different backgrounds, and we work tirelessly to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who come through our doors.

Adults in the U.S. cannot read, write, or do basic math above a 3rd-grade level; that's 16% of the population.
48 Million
Children of parents with low literacy have a 72% chance of not advancing beyond the lifestyle of their parents.
Some 56,000 Sarasota County adults lack basic literacy skills, trapping an estimated 40% of them/their families in poverty
